About the Author

Stacy was born and raised in Waukesha, WI, where she also attended Carroll College for her BA in English.  In December 2007, she earned her Masters degree in Professional Writing at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.

Stacy published "An Armadillo on My Pillow" with a special kind of publisher, called a print-on-demand or "POD" publisher.  POD publishing was the topic of Stacy's Masters Project.  In special recognition, the University Chancellor even mentioned Stacy and her project during his graduation commencement address:

"One of the more intriguing research related stories I learned about this semester involved an armadillo, an armadillo on a pillow, to be exact. It seams Stacy Hillmer's Masters degree in English required research about print on demand publishing, which is a booming high tech form of self-publishing.  Her adviser, assistant professor Dave Clark, encouraged her to seek out the practical implications of her research.  That led Stacy to create a self-published children’s book entitled, 'An Armadillo on My Pillow.'  As you might guess, you can learn more about this project online at ArmadilloPillow.com"

"An Armadillo on My Pillow" was originally published in 2003 as one of the winning stories in the Half Price Books Annual Children's Bedtime Story Contest.  Stacy has written four other winning stories for this contest, and has even placed first, second, and third in the nation. Stacy's scholarly writing has won several awards at Carroll College, including Best Paper in the Humanities.  Her paper "The Baikonur Cosmodrome: From the Birth of the Space Age to Environmental Crisis" was presented and published in Waukesha's sister city, Kokshetau, Kazakhstan, in 2004.

Stacy also writes articles for Milwaukee Home & Fine Living magazine, and was just named copy editor of Bead&Button and BeadStyle magazines at Kalmbach Publishing Co. in Waukesha.

Stacy enjoys traveling, and has studied abroad in England, Ireland, Kazakhstan, and Russia.  She will be touring Italy with the Carroll College Wind Symphony this coming summer.  Stacy also enjoys playing the piano, reading, scrapbooking, cake decorating, and spending time with her family.
